Common Text Operations in Emacs

Deleting text

The two 'pure' deletion methods are using backspace or delete keys. The other way is to cut the text using the below method, regardless of the fact that it copies it to the clipboard.

Cut, Copy and Paste

To cut text, we first need to set a 'mark'. This is the start of the region of text that will be cut. We then need to move the cursor to the end of the region and type C-w.

To copy text, we do exactly the same as we do for cutting, except we use M-w instead of C-w.

To paste text we use C-y.
